Cable Cars and Cocoa Tea

Greetings!!!! This is the first blogpost from Sally, as Ruby is currently fulfilling facebook duties and googling llama porn :P I cannot say that my posts will be as abusive as hers, but if you´re into her special brand of tough love then I will try my best.

So! We are still chilling in Quito, which we thought was quite a small town, yet today we discovered that it was infact a sprawling city about 5 or so times the size of Melbourne. Oops! We made this discovery when we decided to take a cable car up the side of Volcan Pichinchas, which happens to be a still active (but extremely lazy) volcano. Poor Ruby was still suffering from altitude sickness, so I drugged her up and we set off on our adventure. After an extremely cheap cab ride (four dollars to get all the way up the first hill), and a very long ticket line, we were speeding up the mountainside on a cable car with some very excitable south american tweens, who were certain they were going plunge to their deaths. The most amusing thing about this ride though was the smell of the vegetation, which Ruby and I both decided was very similar to a special kind of herb....thats right, ecuador has their own natural stash of green growing on the side of a volcano...well we´re not really sure that that´s true, but its the conclusion we´ve jumped too and will believe until proven otherwise haha.
The views from the top of Volcan Pichinchas were amazing, we can´t wait to show you photos! Ruby was still a little queezy and even I was short of breath, so we soon retreated to the Tea Republik for some Cocoa tea, which is supposedly supposed to reduce altitude sickness, but I just thought it was really yum!!
So yes that was our day! Tomorrow we´re going to spend some time in the city, eating pancakes, nerding it up at the Cultural museum and going down to see La Ronda, which has a reputation for inspiring poerty art and music! Very excited.

Love to you all! Ruby sends her love too, if I can tear her away from the computer...she sure loves those llamas!!!
